Türkiye's central bank has announced a threefold increase in the FAST instant-transfer ceiling. From 26 August 2026, a single FAST money transfer or Request-to-Pay transaction may be as large as TRY 300,000, up from TRY 100,000. The limit for dynamically verified merchant payments using FAST-TR QR codes will also become TRY 300,000, up from TRY 250,000. For international residents and businesses, the change reduces the need to split many lira payments, but it does not remove bank-level controls or the need to verify the beneficiary.

The exact changes

The official announcement sets one common ceiling of TRY 300,000 for three uses from 26 August: ordinary FAST transfers, payments made through the Request-to-Pay service and dynamically verified merchant payments using FAST-TR QR codes. The first two rise from TRY 100,000, while the QR merchant ceiling rises from TRY 250,000. The central bank describes FAST as a 24-hour instant-payment system; the announcement does not turn the new amount into a guaranteed daily allowance for every customer.

A system ceiling is not your bank's promise

TRY 300,000 is the maximum transaction value the FAST infrastructure will accept under the announced rule. Banks and payment providers may apply lower customer, channel, account, time or risk limits. A newly opened account, a mobile device change or an unusual beneficiary can also trigger additional checks. Before a time-sensitive payment, confirm the limit displayed inside your own bank's authorised app and allow time for any security step.

What changes for residents

Rent deposits, school fees, medical bills, vehicle instalments and larger household payments may fit into fewer transfers. That convenience also raises the amount exposed if a beneficiary is wrong. Check the recipient's full name or business title, IBAN and payment purpose before approval. Never rely solely on bank details copied from an email or chat; confirm a changed account through an independent contact route.

Property payments still need a legal trail

A higher instant-transfer ceiling is not permission to send a reservation fee or property deposit without due diligence. Buyers should match the beneficiary with the contract, confirm the seller or authorised company, record the exact property and payment purpose, and understand refund conditions. FAST speed does not validate title, agency authority or investment quality. A request to divide money among personal accounts remains a warning sign even when each payment is within the new ceiling.

FAST is not SWIFT or SEPA

FAST moves Turkish lira between participating accounts in Türkiye and operates around the clock. It does not replace an international SWIFT transfer or a euro payment through SEPA. Someone sending money from abroad may still need to fund a Turkish account first, face currency conversion and comply with the originating bank's checks. Compare the total exchange rate, transfer charge and arrival path rather than assuming the new domestic ceiling lowers cross-border costs.

Request-to-Pay and QR merchant payments

The Request-to-Pay layer lets a recipient send a payment request that the payer reviews and approves. FAST-TR QR enables a verified merchant payment through a dynamic QR code. The higher ceilings can make both tools useful for larger invoices, but approval remains a real transfer of money. Read the merchant name, amount and description on the bank screen; a QR code displayed or sent by an unknown party should not be treated as proof of legitimacy.

Practical checklist for 26 August

Update the official banking app if required, then inspect the bank's own FAST limit rather than assuming it changed automatically at midnight. Save the contract or invoice, verify the beneficiary independently, enter a specific payment note and retain the receipt. For a large purchase, consider a small verification transfer when appropriate. If a payment fails, do not immediately repeat it until the account balance and transaction history show whether the first instruction was processed.

Turkey Compass assessment

The decision is a meaningful infrastructure change because the ordinary FAST ceiling triples and becomes aligned with the merchant QR limit. It should simplify legitimate high-value lira payments for households and companies. Its practical effect, however, depends on each provider's implementation and fraud controls. The safest reading is straightforward: fewer transfers may be needed, but the larger single-transfer capacity makes beneficiary verification and documentary evidence more important, not less.
