Turkey's Housing Development Administration, TOKİ, has issued a fraud warning after people used the names of its managers to approach contractors and consultancy firms for supposed aid to citizens in disaster areas. TOKİ states that its managers do not request aid for any reason and says legal action will be taken against those responsible. The notice is especially relevant to international contractors, investors and property-sector partners who may receive an urgent call or message carrying an official-sounding name.

What TOKİ has confirmed

The official notice identifies a specific method: third parties use the names of TOKİ managers and ask contractors or consultancy firms for aid, claiming it will go to people in disaster regions. TOKİ does not publish names, phone numbers, bank accounts or a confirmed loss amount. The verified fact is the warning itself, not any wider allegation about TOKİ projects or contractors.

The key test is simple

TOKİ says its managers do not request aid for any reason. A caller's knowledge of a project, employee or company relationship is therefore not proof that a request is genuine. Do not transfer money, share banking codes or send identity documents on the strength of a name, profile photograph, email signature or urgent humanitarian explanation.

Verify independently, not through the message

Open TOKİ's official website yourself and use a contact route published there. Do not call a number supplied by the person asking for money. Ask the company unit responsible for the TOKİ relationship to verify the request through an established contact, and require a written institutional record before any payment or donation decision.

Preserve evidence and act quickly after a transfer

Keep the message history, telephone number, email headers, account details, requested amount and any document sent by the requester. If money has already moved, contact the bank immediately and report the incident to law enforcement. Whether a transaction can be stopped or recalled depends on timing and the payment provider's procedure.

Turkey Compass assessment

This is a targeted impersonation warning, not a change to TOKİ housing applications, tenders or property-payment rules. Readers should not infer that every charitable campaign or sector consultant is fraudulent. The decisive point is that TOKİ has denied that its managers make these aid requests; any such approach should be treated as unverified until checked through an independently sourced official channel.
