Travellers planning a beach day on Istanbul's Black Sea coast need to check the exact district order, not a citywide headline. Beykoz, Sarıyer and Şile have restrictions for Wednesday and Thursday, 9–10 September, while Tekirdağ Governorate has separately prohibited swimming throughout Saray district for the same two days. The measures match MGM's strong-wind and high-wave outlook, but they do not close every Istanbul beach, ferry or port.
The Istanbul restrictions are not identical
Beykoz prohibits swimming at its Black Sea-facing coasts, beaches and coves on 9–10 September. Sarıyer closes Kısırkaya Public Beach for those two days rather than every shore in the district. In Şile, swimming is generally prohibited, but the district notice allows only lifeguard-controlled areas at Ayazma Beach and Ağva Beach within the limits stated by the authority; both controlled areas are to be cleared at 18:00.
Saray has a separate two-day order
Tekirdağ Governorate's notice dated 9 September prohibits swimming throughout Saray district on Wednesday and Thursday because of adverse weather and sea conditions. An earlier one-day notice for Süleymanpaşa and Sultanköy should not be treated as proof of a longer closure: local orders have their own places and expiry dates.
Rain warning No. 456 ended at 23:59
The alert covered locally heavy showers and thunderstorms in eastern Giresun, western and eastern districts of Trabzon, all of Rize and northern Artvin from 06:00 to 23:59 on 7 September. Its stated period is now over. Expiry means the national alert is no longer current; it does not prove that every local effect, flooded point or delayed journey has cleared.
Bulletin 252 replaces the previous three-day outlook
The rain and sea warnings numbered 456–457 have expired, and bulletin 251 covered the older 8–10 September window. Travellers should now use bulletin 252 for the current 9–11 September marine outlook and check route-specific operator decisions shortly before departure.
Wednesday, 9 September: Black Sea, Marmara and northern Aegean
In the western Black Sea, winds are forecast at force 4–6 and force 5–7 in the east; the western part of the eastern Black Sea may also reach force 7. Marmara winds are forecast at force 4–6, locally 7, while the northern Aegean may reach force 5–7 before easing later in the day. Waves may reach three metres in the western Black Sea and northern Aegean.
Thursday risk narrows; Friday has no near-gale signal
On 10 September, the strongest signal moves to the central Black Sea, where force 7 winds and locally three-metre waves remain possible. Marmara and Aegean conditions ease to mainly force 3–5, locally 6. For 11 September, MGM states that no near-gale event is expected, although local winds may still reach force 6 and waves 2.5 metres.
What travellers should check
Confirm the exact ferry or excursion with the operator shortly before departure and check the relevant port authority or local authority notice. For yacht and day-cruise bookings, verify the return leg and refund or rebooking terms. Beach users should follow municipal notices and lifeguard flags because a national marine forecast can lead to a local restriction, but does not create one automatically.

Confirmed: location-specific swimming restrictions are in force in Beykoz, at Kısırkaya in Sarıyer, across most of Şile outside the stated controlled areas, and throughout Saray on 9–10 September. Bulletin 252 also identifies near-gale conditions in specific sea areas. Misleading: claiming all Istanbul beaches, ferries or ports are closed, or that Turkey's entire coast is under a swimming ban.
