Where and when the warning applies
MGM warning No. 459 runs from 05:00 to 23:00 on 17 September. Its wording covers all of Muğla, Isparta and Burdur, western districts of Antalya, and later Uşak, Afyonkarahisar and Denizli. The regional forecast says coastal temperatures may fall by 1–3°C and inland temperatures by 5–7°C as the unsettled weather moves through.
What 'heavy rain' means in the bulletin
MGM classifies the expected event as locally heavy rain, defined in the bulletin as 21–50 kg per square metre over a 12-hour assessment period. Thunderstorms may also bring lightning, sudden strong winds and small hail. Actual totals can vary sharply over short distances, so a dry start in one district does not cancel the warning elsewhere.
Travel impact is possible, not automatic
The official risk list includes flooding, landslides and disruption to transport. Travellers using Dalaman, Bodrum-Milas or Antalya airports should check the live flight with the airline and airport; road users should check the exact route and avoid driving through standing or fast-moving water. MGM has not declared all flights or intercity roads cancelled.
Advice for coastal trips and excursions
Boat trips, canyon visits, mountain roads and low-lying resort access can react differently to a local storm. Confirm the operator's departure and return plan shortly before travel. If an attraction, beach or marina issues a local closure, that decision may be narrower than the seven-province weather warning and should be followed separately.
What residents should do
Keep balcony items secure, protect documents and electronics in ground-floor or basement spaces, and do not enter underpasses or stream beds during intense rain. Follow AFAD, the governorate, municipality and transport operator for incident-specific instructions. Emergency conditions should be reported through Türkiye's 112 line.
