Average inflation does not equal personal spending growth. For a foreigner living in Türkiye, the budget structure - rent, utilities, groceries and transport - is more important than one overall percentage.
Which categories have grown the most?
In June 2026, annual consumer inflation was 32.11%, monthly - 0.99%. At the same time, housing, water, electricity, gas and other types of fuel rose in price by 45.14% over the year. Groceries and non-alcoholic drinks increased by 35.45%, transport - by 31.15%.
Why personal inflation may be higher
A person who spends most of their income on rent and utilities will experience an increase stronger than the average index. Families with a car are more dependent on transport, and new residents additionally incur one-time expenses: deposit, insurance, paperwork and connection of services.
How to recalculate your budget
Create your own shopping cart and update it at least once every three months. Divide expenses into lira, foreign currency and one-time expenses, add a reserve and compare cities for the same set of expenses. An advertising assessment of “life in Türkiye” without specifying the area, family composition and rental conditions does not provide a reliable budget.
