Türkiye recorded 207,508 first-time vehicle registrations in July 2026. The total was 6.6% higher than in June, yet 19.4% lower than a year earlier. The two comparisons describe different directions and should be read together rather than reduced to a single ‘market up’ or ‘market down’ headline.
Motorcycles and cars led July registrations
Motorcycles accounted for 48.1% of vehicles registered during the month and cars for 38.0%. Light commercial vehicles followed with 9.4%. Türkiye had 34,746,396 registered motor vehicles at the end of July, while 907,846 vehicles changed hands during the month. Transfers are separate from first registrations and are a useful indicator of activity in the used-vehicle market.
Almost half of newly registered cars were electrified
Across January–July, hybrids represented 31.8% and fully electric models 18.0% of newly registered cars. Together they accounted for 49.8%, a Turkey Compass calculation based on TÜİK's published shares. Petrol models held 41.0%, diesel 8.1% and LPG 1.1%. This composition refers to new registrations, not Türkiye's entire car fleet.
The existing fleet changes more slowly
At the end of July, diesel cars still represented 32.1% of the registered passenger-car stock, petrol 31.0% and LPG 29.3%. Hybrids accounted for 4.9% and electric cars for 2.6%. The gap between new registrations and the total fleet shows why charging access and model availability can grow quickly while the vehicles seen on the road change more gradually.
What residents and buyers should check
Registration statistics do not show the transaction price, financing cost or running expense of an individual vehicle. Buyers should compare insurance, tax, maintenance, charging or fuel access, resale liquidity and the authorised service network in their city. For a used vehicle, an independent inspection and official ownership and damage checks remain essential.
