A sequence of five earthquakes was recorded in southern Turkey on Sunday, 4 October. AFAD data cited by public authorities shows four events centred on Saimbeyli in Adana—magnitudes 4.8 at 14:19, 4.9 at 14:36, 4.4 at 19:00 and 4.3 at 20:28—and a magnitude-5.2 event in Sumbas, Osmaniye, at 14:43. Officials said no deaths, injuries or material losses had been identified in the completed checks, while field screening was continuing. This article separates the confirmed operational update from unsupported predictions circulating online.
What has been confirmed
The first two Saimbeyli events were measured at depths of 7.99 and 8.67 kilometres. AFAD listed the later 4.4 and 4.3 events at a depth of about 7 kilometres, as well as the 5.2 Sumbas event at 7 kilometres. The tremors were felt in surrounding provinces. The Presidency's Directorate of Communications confirmed that public institutions were carrying out field and damage assessments.
Schools and public services
Adana Governor Mustafa Yavuz said checks at schools had been completed and no issue preventing education on Monday had been found. Schools are therefore expected to open normally unless a new official notice is issued. AFAD teams will remain ready overnight in Feke and Saimbeyli. At publication time, the reviewed official statements did not announce a general road, airport or public-transport closure.
What residents and visitors should do
During further shaking, drop, cover and hold on; stay away from windows and do not use lifts. After the movement stops, check for visible damage, gas smells and fallen cables before re-entering a building. Use 112 only for a real emergency. Foreign residents can view designated assembly areas through e-Devlet or local AFAD pages and should keep identification, medication, water and a charged phone accessible.
Do not treat forecasts as facts
A cluster of earthquakes does not allow social-media users to predict the time or size of another event. Posts using unrelated archive footage were also flagged by officials as a source of panic. Follow AFAD's event catalogue, the governorates and emergency authorities; distinguish an official measurement from an expert interpretation or an unverified forecast.
Status at 21:28 local time
Authorities reported no casualties, health emergencies or confirmed material damage from the sequence, and no damage affecting schools. That status can change as inspections continue. Anyone who sees structural cracking, falling elements or another immediate hazard should leave the unsafe area and report it to emergency teams rather than relying on social-media messages.
