Eleven people were killed and 27 injured when a tour bus and a towing vehicle collided near the Akhisar toll area on the Gebze–Orhangazi–İzmir motorway in Manisa on 11 October 2026. The Manisa Governor's Office said the alert was received at 11:11 local time for a bus travelling from Bursa towards İzmir. The official investigation is continuing, and authorities have not yet announced a cause.

What authorities have confirmed

Medical, fire, police, gendarmerie and disaster-response teams were sent to the scene. The governor's statement put the toll at 11 dead and 27 injured, all of whom were transferred to hospitals. Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu later said one patient was in serious condition, 18 were in moderate condition and eight were in good condition. These figures replace an earlier preliminary count of 26 injured.

The location and route

The collision occurred near the Akhisar toll gates on the O-5 motorway, on the Bursa-to-İzmir direction. Akhisar is in western Turkey, north-east of central Manisa. No official notice cited in the latest report announced a continuing full motorway closure, so drivers should use live operator or road-authority information rather than assume the entire route is blocked.

Cause remains unconfirmed

The Akhisar Chief Public Prosecutor's Office opened a judicial investigation being handled by three prosecutors. The bus driver was detained after hospital treatment, according to the updated report, but detention is not a finding of responsibility. No official cause has been established; claims about speed, weather, mechanical failure or fault should therefore be treated as unverified.

No confirmed foreign-passenger information

The published official statements do not provide a passenger list or a verified nationality breakdown. International readers concerned about a specific person should rely on direct contact with the tour operator, police or the relevant consular channel and should not infer nationality from social-media posts or images.

For travellers using the corridor

Allow extra time around Akhisar, follow emergency-service directions and check current navigation and motorway notices before departure. Do not stop near the scene to take photographs, and keep emergency lanes clear. This report will be updated only when authorities release materially new, verified information.
