As the summer season gets underway, Turkish health authorities are reminding people of basic rules to protect themselves from the heat. The main recommendation is, if possible, not to be in direct sun and not to do intense work outside from 11:00 to 16:00.
Who needs special care
Those at higher risk include the elderly, infants and children, pregnant women, people with chronic illnesses or disabilities, and outdoor workers. The risk depends not only on temperature, but also on humidity, physical activity, medications and access to a cool environment.
How to organize your day
Move walks and physical activity to early morning or evening, choose light, light-colored clothing and a hat, and drink water regularly. Children, elderly people or animals should not be left in the car, even for a short time. For your trip, keep a supply of water and check in advance for the availability of shade and air conditioning.
When you need medical help
Severe weakness, dizziness, confusion, unusually hot skin, fainting, or a worsening chronic condition require immediate evaluation. The person should be moved to a cool place and contact the emergency number 112. A general reminder does not replace the doctor’s recommendations for a specific disease.
Don't confuse a reminder with a forecast
The recommendations act as a preventive rule for the hot season and do not indicate the temperature for a specific day or in a specific city. Before traveling, please check separately for the latest forecast and official warnings for Antalya, Izmir, Istanbul or other regions.
