Turkey's official meteorological service has an all-day heavy-rain warning in force on Monday, 12 October 2026, for ten complete provinces and specified parts of three others in the southeast and eastern Mediterranean. Warning No. 505 runs from 00:00 to 23:59 local time. It forecasts intermittent, locally heavy showers and thunderstorms; it does not mean every district will receive the same rainfall or that all transport is suspended.

The exact areas named by MGM

The warning covers Gaziantep, Kilis, Adıyaman, Şanlıurfa, Diyarbakır, Bingöl, Mardin, Batman, Hatay and Tunceli in full. It also covers eastern Elazığ and the south-eastern parts of Kahramanmaraş and Osmaniye. Travellers should check the live MeteoUyarı map because the official notice distinguishes entire provinces from specific sub-regions.

What risks are officially listed

MGM lists flash flooding, surface-water flooding, lightning and transport disruption as the main risks. The detailed notice also warns of local hail and strong wind during storms. MGM's classification defines heavy rain as 21–50 kilograms per square metre within a 12-hour period, but local topography can make impacts vary sharply over short distances.

Road, bus and flight plans need a live check

The bulletin is a hazard warning, not a cancellation notice. Before a long road or bus journey, check the route, operator and road-authority updates; before a flight, check the airline and departure airport. Avoid flooded underpasses, streams and low crossings, and never drive into water whose depth is unknown.

For residents and visitors

Move loose balcony items indoors, keep phones charged and postpone outdoor plans when thunder is nearby. People staying in ground-floor or basement accommodation should monitor water entry points. In an emergency call 112; for changing weather conditions use MGM's current warning map and radar rather than screenshots circulating on social media.

The warning expires at the end of Monday unless renewed

The published validity window ends at 23:59 on 12 October. Conditions can improve earlier in one district or intensify elsewhere. Turkey Compass will treat any later bulletin as a separate update only if MGM materially changes the area, severity or timing.
